Christmas Eve, Almost Better Than Christmas

I have to resist the temptation to work today, because I didn’t get the work that I was supposed to get done yesterday.

Oh no! Running late.  I have to jump into the shower! I’m doing a tour of the WTC at 11.

I’ll be back later.  Probably with some holiday shots of downtown.  In the rain.

Merry

Christmas

Eve

morning!

(That is the man in the moon behind one of the windows in my advent calendar.)

I Read That Shoplifting is Up

My neighborhood continues to mock me. Here’s another new store that just went up. They don’t really sell fruitcakes, they sell bags. You wouldn’t believe how many bag stores there are. Who is buying all these bags?? How can these stores stay in business? And why can’t they sell something more fun?

Snapshot of My Life at this Moment:

I’m listening to His Yoke is Easy and the sound of trucks and construction of some sort outside my window.  I can also hear the steam coming up the pipes.  Finney just indicated he would like to jump up onto my lap.  BREAKING NEWS:  Finney is now on my lap.  Haha.  Okay, that was fun. (For me.)

God, I have so much to do.  Breathe, breathe, breathe.  So! How can I goof off?

Yeah.  I’ve got four things I’m working on, an article, an NPR piece, things related to the book coming out in March, and a proposal for my next book.  The most fun is “things related to the book coming out in March.” Just because it feels so exciting and real and maybe it will sell!  Damnit.  I forgot something.  Five things. I’m researching another article. I’m going to work on one thing a day and just keep rotating.  Up today: NPR.

Big Kids in a Candy Shop

My friend Tim and I went to Economy Candy today.  Good lord.  Will you look at this place?  This was after a meeting where we discussed “business.”  Scroll down for more.

What I bought after the Giant Pez Dispensers …

Candy from my youth!  I don’t think I will actually consume the Nik-L-Nip, except wasn’t it called Nik-L-Lip?  Or something else?  Anyway, I’m sure it’s radioactive and not safe to drink.  The Sugar Babies … is there something kinda racist about that name?  I’m eating the Sour Apple gum as I type, and okay, this is not holding up.  Sour Orange was my favorite anyway.

People Say This to Me A Lot: Breathe

Even stores are telling me! Actually, the sign on the store says Just Breath, and I swear to God, every time I walk by I take a deep breath and feel better.

So take a deep breath and relish the wisdom of our new president, Barack Obama:

“From landing on the moon, to sequencing the human genome, to inventing the Internet, America has been the first to cross that new frontier because we had leaders who paved the way … Leaders who not only invested in our scientists, but who respected the integrity of the scientific process.”

“Because the truth is that promoting science isn’t just about providing resources — it’s about protecting free and open inquiry. It’s about ensuring that facts and evidence are never twisted or obscured by politics or ideology …”

I could just cry!

And his words after appointing Steven Chu: “His appointment should send a signal to all that my Administration will value science, we will make decisions based on the facts, and we understand that the facts demand bold action.”

Deep breath.  An adult is finally in charge.

Biden Puppy Correction

I posted before about Biden’s new puppy and how PETA was upset that it was a puppy mill puppy.  Well, it wasn’t a puppy mill puppy after all. They were upset because it’s a pure bred puppy from a breeder.  They’re okay with him now because he’s getting another puppy and this one will come from the pound, but Jesus.  I mean, yeah, there are so many dogs that need homes it does seem kind of a shame to breed even more, but still. (Okay, I have a crush on Biden, and feel the need to defend him.)

This picture is from the children’s clothing store down the block.  I love their windows.  I didn’t quite capture the sparkly, shoes from Christmas-fairyland feel though.
