Thank You for Existing, Loser’s Lounge

Please watch this video through to the end. The sound isn’t the best, and at first you might think, I don’t know, but soon you’ll see why. It’s David Driver and Blythe Gruda singing Don’t Give Up. I have always loved David Driver, but I’ve never heard Blythe Bruda before and she is a treasure. I’m so glad to have a new singer to love.

This is an out of focus picture of Paul Oakley Stovall, another favorite of mine who has a wonderful voice and he can dance!

Thank you Loser’s Lounge for another great show.

I Should Get Out There

I’m holed up, working on my book, but I keep hearing sporadic cheering out in the streets. I’m about a mile away from Zuccotti Park, so I’m not sure what’s going on. Maybe they’ve hit the streets. Okay, just heard more cheers and sirens. I should get out there for sure.

Halloween decorations are appearing!

Long Dark Morning of the Soul

I woke up a few hours before dawn and my mind was a roulette wheel of worry, mostly about all this dental work. This whole process has been drawn out for a year already, and I haven’t even begun. I can’t get the answers I need. Also on the Roulette Wheel of Angst: money, (lack of) jobs, (lack of) cats (sickness of), dating, (the horrible process of) my bank, (dishonesty of). But then a sentence I really need for my book popped into my head, and for once I had a pen and a piece of paper right there, so I could quick write it down before it disappeared. So, there’s that.

And a Loser’s Lounge tonight!

“Why does everything have to be so hard?” – Tony Soprano. I know I’ve been quoting this and re-quoting for years, but the minute he said it I was struck by the perfection of this question, and it still resonates for me. These are workers on 7th Avenue.

In Cat News

I visit the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee every day, but you have to check out this series of photographs. Scroll down to the end! The man in the pictures is the father of the blogger.

Next, if you live in New York, a cat film festival this Friday at Anthology Film Archives: CHAT D’OEUVRES.

And finally, Finney and his belly.

Swimming Pays Off

I think I might have mentioned that I started exercising every day this spring, instead of three or four times a week. It was part of that five things to do every day happiness thing I wrote about. I very quickly got bored with my usual routines and looked for something more fun to do. That turned out to be swimming. I’ve been swimming three times a week for an hour at a time since May (actually less in the summer because they only gave us 45 minutes at a time then).

I still exercise every day, but swimming is my favorite.

I was doing it for health and happiness reasons, but I’ve since lost ten pounds and my bathing suit is now so big I have to safety pin it to keep it from falling off. Not that I was huge or anything, but I love how I look now. Swimmer’s body! I treated myself to this new suit pictured here, which I ordered online from J.C. Penny’s. Isn’t it cute? I hope it fits!
