I wrote about swimming for Senior Planet. It has some research about the science of swimming and aging, and bottomline, you really should consider swimming.
Of course, since I’ve taken the job where the cute little fluff ball kittens are kicking my ass I’ve been swimming exactly twice. But that’s because I’ve needed my evenings and days off to edit and fact-check my Blackwell’s Island book. Once that’s done I can swim again, but twice a week, instead of three to five times a week as I did before. (I need some time to do nothing!)

Good article. I wish I could swim, never learned and have a deathly fear due to an accident when young.
However, I DO think swimming is the best exercise — and so much easier on your joints/bones. I used to run, and basically ruined my knees. Biking then was an alternative, but eventually I developed back/spine issues and can’t do that any longer. At 65, I have arthritis but still try to take my dogs for long walks in a park with graveled path (easier on the knees/joints).
When I talk to younger people about exercising, I always suggest swimming if at all possible. You are doing GREAT with your routine!
I read the article and I commented and I’m serious. I’m getting me a tankini and joining the best pool/gym in Nassau county.
I hope Finney is still comfy and Bleeker is giving him kisses and space.
Thanks for commenting on the article! My editor will be happy, I think.
Finney is happily on my lap at the moment, but freaking Bleecker does not give him a break. I can only imagine what goes on when I’m at work.
Hi Cara! I’m sorry about whatever accident you had when you were young. To have robbed you from such a simple pleasure. But walking your dogs sounds like an even greater pleasure.
