I just learned they are also known as honeybells. They’re the ones with that weird bump on top, and they are my favorite fruit. They’re tart, is the appealing thing. Although sometimes I get a bad batch. Bad mineola growers. Sending out inferior fruit into the world.
Things I love off the top of my head: mineola oranges, Jon Stewart, my space heater (brrr in New York right now and the heat hasn’t come on) the internets, my new camera, meeting friends for pizza (I mean come on, friends, pizza, pretty much a perfect combination) blogging (makes my life feel more real and gives me a better sense of continuity) sunlight, red, singing in quartets, Twitter posts … you know I need speakers for my HDTV, just saying, then I will put that at the top of my “things I love” list when it happens.
I have grown a Mineola tree from a seed. The plant stands 2 metres tall and is now flowering for the first time. I am not anticipating world-class fruit. It will be most interesting to see what fruit it bears since the seed was obtained from a batch of mostly seedless Mineola fruit bought from the veggie shop. I will be happy to post a photograph of it somewhere.
