My Empty Lot Dreams

It’s something from my childhood and it’s hard to describe. But when I see an empty lot I want to go inside and set up housekeeping. Whatever has grown there I’d leave. I wouldn’t clean up so much, as tuck myself in somehow. Maybe build a small shed or cottage.

I wanted to zoom in to show how huge these leaves were, but this picture doesn’t really convey it. I’d say those leave were over a foot wide, maybe a foot and a half. Imagine building a tiny house in here, and tending the ground so even more wild plants and flowers grew. Doesn’t it seem like it might be heaven?

Two days off!!

As usual, I am beside myself with joy about having two whole days in front of me to work on the singing book!!

Note to self: call the vet about the glucosamine for Finney. I’m anxious to get him started on that.

It was gorgeous up on the roof last night. There was a weird lightning storm a little later. These clouds, in the south, just started lighting up and shooting out streaks. No rain and the sky was clear everywhere else, so I just stood on my desk for a while and watched.

The Best Thing About My Census Job

cake1
Teresa. Hands down. And I’m pretty sure my fellow Census workers would agree. Almost every day she brings in something fabulous that she baked. This is the strawberry cake she brought in yesterday. You can’t tell but it was fantastically tall. And it was the first strawberry cake I’ve ever had that actually tasted like real strawberries!! (Because of the piles and piles of strawberries she put in, Teresa told me).

But this cake isn’t the half of it. I wish I had a better memory (I’m old, I have a good excuse) but she is very creative, and fun, and the sheer variety of treats that she’s brought in is not to be believed. Thank you Teresa. I mean seriously, THANK YOU TERESA.

Hello Weekend!

And another horrible heat wave. Did I mention I’m not good in the heat? God, I hate it. I prefer beaches at night and in the winter. I also have to do a laundry tonight. Timing-wise tonight is the only time that’s going to work for me in the next few days.

I took this picture of a building at the corner where 7th Avenue, Greenwich and 11th meet. A horrible corner, by the way, crossing the street-wise. I took it because I don’t think I ever quite looked up at the brick building and noticed its Flatiron building-like shape.
