Cleaned Up/Feel Better

I scrubbed down the window sill and I feel a litter better. It even makes the areas I couldn’t reach look not so bad. The white spots left are paint, leftover from God knows when.

The birds still hang around, even though the feeder is empty until morning.

My Tale of Window Woe or Could I Be Any Less Handy??

The Fix-It Plan

– I bought clear caulk to hold a broken piece of window pane in place because the landlord is never going to fix it.

– I bought corner braces to attach the bottom of the window frame to the sides because it’s falling off. A friend was doing this for me, but we ran out of corner braces so he pre-drilled the holes so I could finish the job myself

– I bought a tarp to put over the fire escape because the birds are making a mess, which is filtering down all the way to the street.

I was all happy when I began because I found bricks to hold the tarp down, and it felt good to find them and save a little $$$.

The Outcome

– I couldn’t figure out how to work the caulking thing.

– My friend only drilled one hole so I couldn’t attach the brace and I managed to make the problem worse in the process.

– I couldn’t put the tarp down because my fear of heights paralyzed me. I had to lean out farther than I thought I would.

I am currently sitting here stewing. I’m contemplating crying. You can see the mess the birds are making in the picture below. Okay, I think I’m going to go for crying.

Stupid window.

Mildred Pierce

pierce
Wasn’t I just posting about the book Mildred Pierce? I just read this on TV Tattle:

Kate Winslet is TV bound
The Oscar winner is set to join the miniseries “Mildred Pierce,” which is likely to air on HBO. The original 1945 film version of “Pierce” won Joan Crawford an Oscar in the role of a bored housewives who gets involved in bad behavior.

The movie was not at all true to the book. They tried to make it this noir thing, like his other books which had been made into successful noir movies, like The Postman Always Rings Twice. In the book Mildred Pierce is not a bored housewife who gets involved in bad behavior. It’s a thousand times more interesting and subtle and complex than that.

But I’m hopeful that whoever wrote that is simply describing the previous film, and this does not at all reflect what the new production team will do with this new miniseries.

Waiting for Breakfast

They have completely lost their fear of me. Now, like the cats, they make noise to wake me up every morning to feed them. I feel bad for the finches so I’m buying a feeder and seed for them.

Part of me is a little annoyed that all the various things I’ve done to save money this year are now going to feeding birds, but what the hell. Somebody please pay me to write something soon!
