Is it over yet?

These are the paintings I saw walking up 8th Avenue yesterday. I wanted to have them, but couldn’t figure out a way to steal them. Not that I actually would have.   I’m still kicking myself about not stealing the Keith Haring subway drawings and that was what?  Almost 30 years ago. Except it was the right thing.  My argument to myself then was “they’re for everybody,” and I was right. But still.

The “Is it over yet” question refers to the election, of course.

I know I’m about to repeat myself but I need to. There was a point when, even though I supported Obama, (who I honestly think might accomplish something on the level of greatness) I didn’t think it would be the end of the world of McCain won.  I thought he had integrity, even if I disagreed with him on everything. However his integrity is long gone, and as I already said, certain things have come out that seem to indicate that he never really was who I thought he was.  But his choice of Sarah Palin does put electing him into the category of the end of the world.

She is just so supremely unqualified, but I guess I’m preaching to the choir here. The thing is its driving me crazy, that anyone would still vote for McCain at this point.  Anything less than an Obama landslide will once again make me despair that I am living in a country full of crazy people.

The ones who voted for Bush TWICE.  (I’ll never get over that.)  So I keep obsessively checking: www.talkingpointsmemo.com, dailykos.com and www.huffingtonpost.com. It’s probably not good for my peace of mind, but I do get some solace when independents and Republicans decide to go with Obama and explain why.

What Are You Looking At?

Saw this guy walking up 8th Avenue.  I know this is a familiar refrain, but why are details like this a thing of the past?  Except the poor guy looks so agonized.

I also took pictures of some paintings someone did up and down the side of a door, which I will post later.  But I’m leaving for choir practice in a few minutes.

So, Bloomberg is going to be our mayor forever, it seems.  My friends are quite upset, but I like the guy. Probably because Giuliani is still relatively fresh in my memory. Shudder.

Someday I Will Miss When He Made it Impossible to Work

It’s inevitable that whenever I lay out a pile of papers to do some research, or, like here, my music in order to practice, a cat will immediately come over and plop himself down on top of whatever it is I’m working on.  When I still bought newspapers they were an especially favorite cat resting spot. Anyone who has a cat knows this.  You pull out a newspaper and a cat appears out of nowhere, jumping up.  Forget trying to read.

I say I will miss this because I’m haunted by this touching, brief obituary someone once wrote for her cat, and she had a caption under his picture which read something like “Sitting on my work for over” X years.  The point was, it’s annoying today, but you’re going to miss it when it’s gone. I know I post a lot of pictures of Finney sprawled wherever I’m working, it’s because ever since that obit I find it kinda poignant.  Except when he spills my coffee.

Taking it Easy Over on Perry Street

I’ve gotten email and comments thanking me about posting pictures of Aly Sujo, so if anyone has other pictures they’d like to share I’d be happy to post them too, so everyone can see them. Just email them to me and I will put them up.  Karen Cattan is collecting pictures for the memorial, so you might email her as well.  Karen_Cattan@condenast.com.

Also, I successfully made MP3s of the Leisure Units songs that I’d be happy to share, as long I can come up with a viable way to do so.  My email freaks out if I try to send out huge files and the songs might be too big, although I’d be happy to try.  And sending out tons of cds all over the world isn’t a great solution.  There must be some way I can put them online somewhere so anyone can download them.  People constantly share music online, there’s probably a million ways to do this.  Does anyone know how?

Here is Finney, sprawled out in his favorite spot.

Mineola Oranges – The Best Fruit

I just learned they are also known as honeybells. They’re the ones with that weird bump on top, and they are my favorite fruit. They’re tart, is the appealing thing. Although sometimes I get a bad batch. Bad mineola growers.  Sending out inferior fruit into the world.

Things I love off the top of my head: mineola oranges, Jon Stewart, my space heater (brrr in New York right now and the heat hasn’t come on) the internets, my new camera, meeting friends for pizza (I mean come on, friends, pizza, pretty much a perfect combination) blogging (makes my life feel more real and gives me a better sense of continuity) sunlight, red, singing in quartets, Twitter posts … you know I need speakers for my HDTV, just saying, then I will put that at the top of my “things I love” list when it happens.
