Dresses I Cannot Possess from Madison Avenue

First, these Jimmy Choo shoes.  I don’t want to possess them actually, but I must honor the artistry in the coloring.  Stunning.  More below.

This is a pretty little dress that needs just the right necklace.  I love the bag, which is hard to see, but it’s like a flower.  However the across-the-chest strap isn’t right for this dress, I don’t think.

I was aiming for the polka dot here.

And this is another that I don’t really want to possess, but I admire the construction of the … thing coming down the front.

Veteran’s Day Parade

I was out all day yesterday at Mt. Sinai, where they’re tracking the health of the WTC workers and volunteers. On the way there I got a few pictures of the parade.  (Below.)  Later today I hope to post a bunch of “Dresses I Cannot Possess” pictures.  I walked to Mt. Sinai on Madison, which hits a significant pocket of “Dresses I Cannot Possess” territory.

These boys were heading over to line up for their parade march.  So young.

These girls, who look even younger, were warming up by yelling out one of those marching call and response things they do.

And this is looking up Fifth Avenue.  One guy started complaining to me about how few people were watching the parade.  “The whole city comes out for the Gay Pride Parade!”  I agreed with him, but said it was still nice that the whole city game out for the Gay Pride Parade.  He said that wasn’t what he meant, and I believed him.  He changed his example to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

It’s Weird about Veterans Day

I can remember a couple of years, after 9/11, when the City made a bigger deal about Veteran’s Day, otherwise it’s usually the saddest, most ignored holiday of the year. Is holiday the right word?  It can’t be.

I was just looking at the website for the New York City Vietnam Memorial, a very well designed memorial in my opinion.  You can click on the different sections online.  Here, just look at one.

My feelings about war are complex, but could probably be summed up with: I wish when armies were deployed they were sent to places like Darfur, and not Iraq.
