It worked! Plus, it’s already being used as a nice bird-walk. They flew away when I got up to take a picture, but I bet anything they’re all lined up there tomorrow and I’ll get a picture then.

And your idea was great. I think maybe the pole I was trying to attach it to was too thin?
That looks like a piece of plywood. It doesn’t have much strength in that direction, so over time and with weather, it’s going to bend more, I think.
If it does start bending a lot, get a piece of solid wood and then paint it to protect it from the weather. Or another layer of the plywood stacked on top of this one.
