My apartment building from across the street. My apartment is the lit-up one on the top left. I can see my amoire in the window on the left. That is also where I sit at my desk and write every day. That’s a hanging plant in the window on the right. I like that my windows are the brightest. Oh wow, I’m also the one who doesn’t draw their shades. There’s only one other window without the shades drawn! I would hate to have the shades drawn all the time.
I figure since I’m on the top floor I have some privacy, no one can really see me. At most they’d seem my tiny head as I work at my desk.
My one year of working in retail was in a drapery store. Then, to put myself through the Bar Ads, I sewed “soft furnishings for the home” with Laura Ashley fabric (back in the day when it was oh so beautiful cotton prints with wonderful Indian names.) Anyway, I have a thing for knowing what to put on windows, especially because I can make some of these things myself. I could see a reverse roman shade in a semi-sheer fabric that just blocked visibility but not light. It would fold at the bottom and you could pull it up to a height where you could see out but visibility in would be blocked at the bottom of the window. If you were concerned about privacy. But I think you are right that people can’t really see in, especially from the street.
I love looking into buildings in the evening, to see how other people live. Not like a stalker! 😉 But you know, casually whilst strolling.
Reminds me of the movie Rear Window.
It does!!
I also love looking in windows. I am lucky to live in a very well-off neighborhood (while not being well off myself, I won the rent stabilization lottery) and I look in and see such fabulous homes. It’s incredible how some people live, among such beautiful things. I wish they were all my friends so I could go inside!
