I think I’ve mentioned how I dread shopping. Hate it, hate it, hate it. So it’s great when it goes well. I bought these lightweight jeans at Old Navy yesterday. They are perfect for three reasons: they are very flattering, they’re lightweight as I said, and they’re cheap!! The website says they’re $38 something, but they were $29 something in the store. Plus I had a 10% off coupon, so I felt particularly satisfied. Okay, I have to pay $10 to get them hemmed, but still. A new pair of jeans for $36 is not bad.
All my Spring Cleaning work is done, except for the windows, which will be cleaned on Monday.
I am planning a relaxing weekend of working on choir pieces for our performance NEXT WEEK, magazine reading, tv watching, and general luxuriating in a fresh clean apartment.
Food is an issue. What am I going to eat now that Balducci’s has closed?? I’ve started scoping out new food sources. Yesterday I tried Whole Foods. I know it’s tremendously popular, but it’s not convenient and it didn’t really wow me. I need more prepared meals.
Ooh, I might have to make a trip to the mall to see if they have these. Cute!
Here’s a recommendation on the food front:
Get your produce wherever they have the freshest produce and hopefully it’s also reasonably priced.
Whole Foods would not be reasonably priced but they have been incredibly accommodating to me in recent weeks in providing produce boxes for my move next week (from a 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom in the same building) — after 17 years in my current unit. Talk about spring cleaning! I can’t tell you how many books I have unloaded in recent months. And I’m off to sell another load this afternoon.
For dry/packaged goods:
You had mentioned that you were impressed with the Target Superstore a few months back.
If your Target store has the expanded grocery/food section you should check out their Market Pantry and Archer Farm product lines. Reasonably priced and as good as some of the more conglomerated brands.
Recommended if you’re not a vegetarian or vegan):
Market Pantry Zesty Asian Chicken (frozen)– boneless chicken wings with a Chili/Ginger glaze. If prepared correctly (10 minutes on each side and flip) and served with stir fry vegetables (or whole wheat pasta) you would think that this was restaurant fare. Seriously. And you should be able to get 3-6 ample servings from one package.
Also: The Archer Farms line of baked chips (Rosemary/Garlic are the best) and Market Pantry condiments — unfortunately they discontinued the Teriyaki Shitake Mushroom offering which had proven to be a great addition to a tasty sandwich or salad.
Not exactly health food, but you gotta let loose on occasion, especially after Spring Cleaning…

Nadine, thank you.
Revan, thank you!! I don’t have a Target near me. The Target I was posting about was in Durham, where I researched my current book. I remember liking the few Archer things I tried though.
