I don’t update this blog very frequently, but people sometimes email me to ask me what I’m up to. I’m still writing books. The paperback for my most recent book, The Killing Fields of East New York, came out this year, and I’m working on the proposal for my next book. If I get to write it, it will still be a criminal justice book, but like nothing I’ve ever done before and in many ways the book I’ve had in the back of my mind for decades. I’m so exhilarated about it. And terrified.
I also work a few days a month at the ASPCA Animal Hospital where I have to constantly stop myself from adopting a cat or dog. Seriously, every day I work there I have to have a hard talk with myself. I mean look at these things! (Pictured below.) You try not taking one of these babies home. But I already have three cats, and one is home on palliative care for cancer. From now on, no more than two pets at a time, and when I adopt it will be an older animal.
Echo, the social media site I started in 1989 and opened to the public in 1990 is still up and running! 37 years!! It’s older than our new and wonderful mayor, Zohran Mamdani (who started a food pantry to help people feed their animals).
Finally, I still sing with the Choral Society of Grace Church and our Christmas concert is coming up! I think that’s my life these days, mostly.
