Speaking of being sick, my health insurance went up to just under $1,000 more a year. Just like that. Give us $1,000 more. Someone said all the health insurance companies are frantically raising their rates. I can’t believe people are fighting healthcare reform and the public option. Why on earth would anyone be on the side the insurance companies??
Here is another picture of the store that went up overnight across the street. It’s a high end housewares store. Here I am freaking out about my health insurance rates, living among people who can shop here.

I am also so sorry about your health insurance. I grew up on a farm and my parents raised six kids, first without insurance and then with very high-deductible policies (common refrain from my childhood: “Let’s see if it still hurts next week before we go to the doctor…”).
It is very sad and bitter to say this about human nature, but too many people still have health insurance through their employer and don’t want to pay for anyone else. It just doesn’t affect enough people yet. Same with the war(s). Take away employer-sponsored healthcare and people would be more interested in health care reform; implement the draft and a lot more people would get interested in the war. My, sorry to be so cranky this morning. But that’s the way I feel.

I hear you on the medical insurance. Mine went up 50 bucks a month, and I have a $6,500.00 deductible. That means I basically can’t afford seeing a doctor/tests due to paying the high premiums! I live in Alabama; we’re owned by Blue Cross/Blue Shield here, NO competition. Something has to be done with the health care reform.
Have you heard the latest: that those 55+ might get medicare? It would be a start, but I was so hoping the public option would make it through. Looks DOA, regretfully.
I just have to hope I don’t get sick, and when I do feel ill lately I just “wait & see.” Haven’t had medical tests in a year or so.
I used to be an employer with employees and I know how much it costs — I’m surprised more businesses aren’t getting behind reform as well. More competition with drive costs — their costs — down. Why aren’t they screaming for this too??
