Halloween was a bad day this year.

I’d planned to skip choir practice to walk around my neighborhood taking pictures. But then the attack happened downtown. I now believe that terrorists are just very damaged people using whatever religion or political ideology they can grab onto as an excuse to kill people. This jackass, for instance, killed mostly tourists, not Americans, which just breaks my heart. They come here to have a good time and end up getting murdered. But he didn’t care. He just wanted to commit murder. It has nothing to do with God.

Harmony seemed like a better way to spend the evening. But I took these pictures to and from rehearsal. Even though newscasters claimed otherwise, it was the most subdued Halloween I’ve ever seen. The crowds watching the parade were half the size they usually are, and even though people generally party all night on Halloween the streets were mostly empty on my way home.

All of these except for the skeleton holding the cat, which was taken in Gramercy Park, were taken in my neighborhood, the West Village. AND, the Tardis has once again crashed into a building on Perry Street. I can’t wait to take a picture of it at night with my new camera. I should finally be able to capture how cool it looks, when smoke pours out of it and colored lights flash in the windows.

Halloween is almost here! Haven’t seen the crashed Tardis yet though. This shot is from a previous year. The pictures following that are from one of the best holiday decorators in the West Village (and are up now, at Charles and West 4th Street).

Meanwhile, I’m getting a tooth pulled today at 2pm, after spending over a thousand dollars trying to save it (sob). Getting a tooth pulled is usually not a big deal right? I’m going to treat myself to a great big plate of macaroni and cheese to compensate for whatever I must endure this afternoon.

Night Shots

So yeah, this camera (Canon G7X Mark II) is much better at night shots than my previous camera, the Canon G9. But it’s hard to get a sharp focus. In any case, this building on Charles Street always has wonderful decorations for the various holidays.

Night Shots and the Loser’s Lounge

I want to see how my camera handles night shots and low light levels. I took this last night at the Loser’s Lounge tribute to the Beegees. This is singer Anna Copa Cabanna performing out among the audience. I guess this isn’t really low light though. It was a GREAT show, everyone was at the top of their game. I especially loved this song I never heard before called They’ll Never Know (it was recorded by Wayne Newton!) and sung at the Loser’s by Richard Barrone. I was also charmed by Clay Pigeon who has a morning show on WFMU.
