Fulltime

Today I report for my new Census job. It’s in one of my favorite back-in-time parts of town, although I don’t know how much picture-taking time I’ll get.

But it’s this whole area southeast of the World Trade Center. Part of it is the financial district, maybe all of it is, I’m not sure where the neighborhood cut-offs are. But it retains the feel of the 19th century in many spots.

A day of rest, supposedly!

I’m going to be working full-time for the Census for the next two months! The hours are different every day and I’ve been in a panic ever since. How am I going to give Buddy his meds, how am I going to write, etc? Ohmygod, how will I ever keep up with tv?? (I actually did worry about that.)

But I’m sure I will work it out.

This is an apartment on the other side of the courtyard behind my apartment building. That room on the top floor with the windows on either side and all the diamond panes of glass! It must be such a pretty, sunny room. It must be nice to look out at the world from that room.
But perhaps the saddest person in the world lives there. But maybe he’d be even sadder if it weren’t for that room. Maybe that room keeps him alive.

I see he opened a window that day. The saddest person in the world must not have pets (no screen).

Loser’s Lounge

The kid on the left in the first snippet was so adorable you wouldn’t believe. This short clip doesn’t even begin to convey it. He should be a huge star. He’s going to be a huge star. His name is Jack Skuller.

It was the Loser’s Lounge tribute to Simon and Garfunkle. (The guy on the right, Sean Altman, fabulous singer by the way, was doing Garfunkle.) It was one of their best shows ever and if it’s not too late you should get tickets and go.

Hart Island Shots

hartc
For my post the other day about collecting and saving information, I scanned some of the shots I took on Hart Island, New York’s Potter’s Field. I can’t find the best shots I took! But here are a couple of the scans I didn’t include.

It was a serene and, not surprisingly, haunting place. There were a lot of old empty decaying buildings that served various purposes, and a lot of old roads that are no longer used. It almost felt like a long neglected country get-away. It’s pretty.

I should go find what I wrote about it way back when, but I have to leave for Census work in a minute!

Also, after my shift is over I have to run downtown to interview for another Census position. The thing I’m doing was part of phase one and they are moving onto phase two next week.

The job I’m interviewing for though is an office job down on William Street, doing payroll. I’d like to think that they decided I’m one of the reasonably smart and dependable ones, which is why they called me! But maybe they don’t want someone like me as an enumerator (knocking on people’s doors) and would rather have me safely working away in an office.

Still Having One of those Days

But I had a nice night last night with my meditation group, and a nice night when I particularly needed it. But I’m not complaining, life is good. Okay, I AM complaining but not with my same … dedication.

I have to run to my Census post. But here is a picture of spring on 11th Street. That in New York City, people!!
