A Skier on Bleecker Street
I never learned to ski. So many people I knew growing up on Long Island were skiers. The one time I signed up for a ski trip to learn how I over-slept and missed the bus. My heart wasn’t really in it. Plus, at that age I hated getting up early with a passion that knew no bounds. Now I love it. The very early morning is my favorite time of day.
My Evening Snowcapade!
I had to go back out there. Okay. Now I’m impressed. My camera sucks for night shots, alas. I missed so many great shots. Damnit! I should have used my phone. I keep forgetting it has a camera because it is otherwise inferior to my regular camera.
Anyway, this is the sidewalk leading up to my apartment building.
A lot along Hudson Street. I was shooting the icicles. We rarely see icicles.
Walking the dog. Lots of dogs out there either looking absolutely miserable or having the time of their lives.
What may not be immediately obvious here is I’m standing on a plowed street and the height of the snow was up to the top of my legs. You can see my shadow in the snowbank.
My Snowcapade!
It doesn’t feel extremely blizzardy, but it was enough to be fun and exciting. Not a lot of people out there, but there were others like me who wanted to explore, and a few who were still getting supplies or heading to the few bars and restaurants that were open, and there were plenty of places open.
The first people I saw were a couple of snow shovelers.
There was one father and son in the playground.
And one woman trying to give a couple of girls an urban toboggan experience, which made them scream with joy of course.
As usual, I was drawn to people walking their dogs in the snow. Here a couple are getting two dogs bundled up and ready.
This was out on the river (the Hudson River). Very idyllic. Looks like a painting.
A woman crossing Hudson Street with her dog. Also looks like a painting.
In an actual dog park. The dog: What? You want me to play in this, pee in this, what?? The people: Yes. Do it. Hurry.
There’s a ban on all traffic except emergency vehicles, and yet, I heard a scream, turned and saw people squealing with delight because they just caught a cab.
Model Shoots Before Snowpocalypse
I decided to go the Library before holing up for the storm. It was a great decision. I found some really good material for the chapter I’m going to start working on tomorrow.
New York City was upgraded from a blizzard watch to a blizzard warning, so I’m very excited! We’re supposed to get 10 – 15 inches, which is a lot, but not like the storms of yesteryear. Still, I can’t complain. Snow!!
On my way to the Library, I passed by not one but two photo shoots in my neighborhood. So, others are trying to get some work done before the storm hits. Here was a friendly (and pretty, of course) model!
I’m torn. I’d enjoy being both the model and the photographer. Although, now I’m remembering the times when I was the subject, it can get kinda tedious. I’m changing my vote: I want to be the photographer. UNLESS, the model gets to keep the outfits.
