Benefit for the Choral Society of Grace Church
I only took a couple of pictures at our benefit this week. If you went by these pictures you’d think our choir is mostly men. Look closely and you’ll spot actress Polly Holliday, most well known for playing Flo on the TV show Alice. She’s always been wonderfully supportive of The Choral Society, and I just read on her bio that she once taught music in an elementary school in Florida.
Two of my favorite outfits of the night, and conveniently both people sat near each other. I loved her red dress and the purple jacket/yellow shirt/blue sneakers combo worn by the guy on the couch.
We are all listening to the fabulous Chalfonte Quartet (founded by Jorge Avila) play Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 10 in E-flat.
With all due respect, shut the hell up John McCain.
The mistake, the crime, was going to war in Iraq in the first place. Don’t compound it. For the love of God, you’re like a wind-up doll squeaking “War! War! War!” as the answer to every problem.
It’s a terrible mess, I agree, but it’s a complicated mess and there’s absolutely no evidence that stepping in at this point will help, and a lot of evidence to indicate that it might make matters worse. They have to fight it out, we have to deal with the aftermath and whoever is in charge. We can’t control the world.
Walking back crosstown through the East Village last night. Every place that had a tv had the World Cup on.
Three Day Birthday Week Deficit
For one reason or another I missed three days worth of birthday treats. That cannot stand. That must be made up! I hope to make it to Free Music Fridays at the Folk Art Museum, a free tour of Grand Central which is given by the Grand Central Partnership, the American Museum of Natural History which is also pay as you wish, where I will wish to pay a dollar (except you still have to pay for every “special” exhibit and for the Planetarium) and a movie.
I walked up too late to get the story of this greyhound, but I gather he was a rescue. Who is very curious about horses. He had that irresistible mix of “I want to check you out” and ” NO, NO, I’m scared” and the horses were very gentle with him. They did everything they could not to spook him. They were absolutely sensitive to the fluctuations of his courage.
