I Think I Need a Movie

A day full of movies. How long has it been since I’ve done that? I used to occasionally spend the day at the movies. I’d go to one after another all day long. I think it usually amounted to three movies, sometimes four.

My future is just one big question mark. I have no project lined up, no job, no income, and it will probably work itself out, I’ll get a book contract or something, but right now I just have NOTHING. It’s scary. And when I look around for jobs just so I’ll feel better, that there’s a Plan B out there for me somewhere just in case, I find absolutely NOTHING.

Here’s a picture looking up at the Municipal Archives Building (where I would love to work).

  1. That does sounds sort of scary, Stacy.

Do you get royalties? It seems to me that Unbelievable would be a good candidate for paperback. If that happened, would you realize anything from it?

The writers I have known often maintain some fairly insignificant part-time job to help slide them through some of the slower periods.

Ever since I read your book I have been wondering if working on it changed you in some way. Did you come to view the possibilities in the universe differently than when you started it?

  2. Or you can come back to North Carolina and stay with me and we can both commiserate about our lack of jobs, income, being in our fifties. . .

At least the birds have started to show up at your feeder!

  3. Or you can come to Alabama and stay with a 50s widow who is on the verge of losing health care insurance — and tho she has some savings, it’ll be gone soon without that ransom money to the insurance!

    Strange days indeed…we’re living in.

  4. I love that comment: At least the birds have started coming to your feeder, too funny.

  5. Hi Stacy,
Not quite sure how I ended up on your website looking at the most magical photo of Perry St in the rain, bizarre really, but I did and it’s enchanting Stacy. You sound dispondant and I genuinely hope the World will conspire to turn things around to make you happy, inspired and solvent again. I live near the Hill of Tara in Ireland, ever heard of it?
    Stay strong Stacy,
    Joanie.

  6. Thank you for commiserating everyone! Karen, Cara, what are we going to do? I try not to think about it and do what I can, but it is scary.

Greg, my book will come out in paperback next year. I hope that sells better. And yes, writing it did change me. I am much more interested in science now, particularly some recent discoveries in physics and everything to do with consciousness.

Joanie, I love that I have a visitor from Ireland! My ancestors came from Ireland, but I haven’t had much luck finding out from where exactly. And I haven’t heard of the Hill of Tara but I will google it.

  7. Hi Stacy,
I know you can’t live on praise alone but wanted to let you know I’ve recently read both “Waiting for My Cats to Die” and “Unbelievable” and am eagerly diving into “Restless Sleep.” I enjoy your writing so much–I hope you get another book contract soon!
