Okay, so we didn’t get gypped, turns out.

I decided to go caroling at Paddy O’Reilly’s and I head out and the mere dusting was turning into quite the snowfall. It was GREAT!!! Snow all over the place!! Blizzard-y!!

And caroling was so much fun. I really have to remember that choosing to go singing is never ever a bad choice. Especially in a bar. Or church. Interesting that those are the two best places, bars and churches.

I made a fort for my birds, but I’m still going to have to shovel that area this morning. The feeder inside is probably snow-free, but the fort around it is buried, I’m sure. I don’t have a snow shovel though. Hmm. Well, I find something.

Damnit. I was wondering why my pictures have come out so grainy the past couple of days and sure enough, one of the settings is wrong. And the movies I took last night didn’t come out because that setting was wrong, too. That keeps happening to me. I have to remember that these dials move if you so much as breath on them funny.

That, apparently, is the least of my worries. My building has NO HEAT OR HOT WATER RIGHT NOW!! I called the super, but if they have to get an oil truck here forget about it for today. Well, I’ve got a space heater. I’m going to relax with my coffee and then go out there!! I’ll get some daytime pictures of the snow while I run a couple of errands.

So far, it looks like we’re going to get gypped!

This was taken minutes ago on my block. Alright, technically it’s snowing, but it’s no blizzard.

There’s a nice light out though. But still, it’s little more than a dusting. There’s a crowd outside the Marc Jacobs store, as per usual. Although there are less people on the street in general. Probably because they were geared up for a blizzard and so they’re already in hunker down mode.

I think I really have no excuse to not head out and carol at Paddy O’Reilly’s.

Except I’m lazy.

And what if someone can actually hear me sing??

And I’ll have hat hair on stage.

Fuck it, I think I’m going to go. I already have a red top on. (We were asked to wear red.)

Here’s another shot I took walking home on 7th Street.

It’s Christmas Week!

detail
We’re all excited about the snow, right?? I guess it’s less exciting if you have to travel or have loved ones who have to travel. I just have to travel cross town.

When I took the picture below of a bunch of Christmas trees on the stairs my first thought was, ‘how do the people get in and out of their house?’ The basement entrance, of course. Later I noticed something pretty in the window. Or is that a reflection? It all looks kinda magical though. This is Charles Street, which is beautiful to begin with, and the trees here all have lights and it looks old-world glamourous inside.

I’m going caroling at a friends house this afternoon, but then I have another caroling opportunity tonight at an Irish bar all the way back on the east side (I live very far west). It would mean walking all the way east, then all the way back home in the snow, then all the way back east in the snow and once again all the way back west in the snow. It’s insane.

The thing is, what could be more fun than caroling at an Irish bar … in the snow? And it’s for charity.

I hate myself!!

I met Neil deGrasse Tyson at a party last night. I babbled “hello” and promptly clammed up. Ugh. Who am I?? Ugh, ugh, ugh. My mind just shut down. Actually what happened was, in my mind I immediately asked, “Can I explore the basement of the Natural History Museum,” (where he works) and I knew that would be impolite, and I just got stuck there. “Don’t ask that, don’t ask that.” Kill me now.

I took a ton of pictures of the crowds on 5th Avenue the other day, trying to capture the insanity of them. The police were roping them in at every corner, a trick they learned when the republican convention was in town that time, although they were MUCH nicer about it this time.

I took this one from the steps of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Actually if you look across the street I think you get the idea better. A never ending wall of people.

Here’s a close-up.

I took this one further downtown, from the steps of the library, where the crowds had basically disappeared. This relatively small group is watching some dancers.

Oh Jakob!

It’s hard to be disappointed that Russell won, he’s such a sweetheart, and he is also amazingly talented, but for once I would like the best dancer to win. (If you don’t watch So You Think You Can Dance you don’t know what I’m talking about.) I voted for you Jakob! I also loved Legacy more as the diamond in the rough dancer. And Kathryn as the second best technical dancer.

I’ve been struggling lately with everything, the book proposal, a business plan I’m working on, I sang flat the other night!! Nothing I can’t get past, but still. It would be nice to experience some smooth sailing once in a while. Am I right?? Something that came easy. A lucky break to just all into my lap. A public option.

Here’s a picture I took the other night, looking up 5th Avenue.
