Good morning!

It’s going to be heat-wavish again today the news says. The day I’m going to be lugging bird seed through the steamy city streets. Which is my choice, so clearly I’m insane. But I’ve got a doctor’s appointment right near the place where I get my bird seed. It would bug me not to pick some up while I’m there.

I took this picture walking home. When I reach this corner I start to get that “almost home” feeling.

  1. Life without a car has to be healthier for you – all that exercise you get while lugging birdseed, cat litter and groceries. We’re slaves to our cars. And I say that with 5 parked in the garage, barn, front lawn…

I used mass transit (“Light Rail”) for the first time in my first 55 years yesterday and it was wonderfully liberating – no worries about parking or would my nice car be vandalized or even there when it was time to go. I was given Orioles tickets and went with a co-worker after work. I’m going to do it again – old dogs can learn new tricks.

Can you use a little folding wheeling cart to haul that heavy stuff home?

  2. Wait, you have five cars????

I feel liberated using public transportation too.

I could get a cart, but as much as I complain I don’t want to stop lugging for the very reason you brought up. I think it’s good for me. Keeps me in shape.

  3. haha (make that a sheepish haha) – actually 4 cars and a full-size pickup truck. The truck is needed to pull the boat (remember the pic of the fish I held in the boat that creeped you out?) Like Thoreau said: “we don’t own our possessions, they own us”.
