I’m Taking a Photo Class on Saturday

I suspect they’re going to tell me to get a new camera, but one of the things I can’t do is decent night shots. Sometimes the imperfect shots I get work, like the one below, I think. That’s looking down 7th Avenue, on my way home from choir rehearsal. But I’d like to feel more in control of the outcome.

I actually majored in photography, undergrad, believe it or not. I’ve forgotten a lot, unfortunately. My step-father, who paid for my college education, is rolling over in his grave.

  1. I have been trying for years, with random luck success, to take pictures in the dark/near dark. Using a digital camera my goal is to capture the color of the night and subtle nuance of shadow. Like you, I have had happy accidents but admittedly no real control of the outcome. I did finally get one of those gorilla tripods and that helps. Next time we get together you’ll have to tell me all you learned.

  2. Hi Adrienne! The class got cancelled due to the blizzard, and I haven’t signed up again yet. I do have a tripod though and that helps when I have it.
