“Dark Energy Constantly With Us”

I’ve got a million of these side street shots. I keep seeing pretty things as I’m walking along, but I really need to figure out a different want to capture them.

The title of this post is from an article in Science News I’ve bookmarked to read. I just love it’s metaphoric possibilities.

Here’s my opinion about Obama and Rick Warren: When Jon Stewart started inviting conservatives on his show and not only didn’t read them the riot act, he treated them respectfully I was furious.  Absolutely furious.  But now I like it.  It doesn’t mean he agrees with them, and sometimes he will confront them more forcefully, but it’s never in an attack-dog manner.  And now conservatives regularly come on his show, and the issues are discussed and every once in a while, there are steps toward a middle ground.

I am tired of all the hate and hostility and divisiveness in our country. We have to start somewhere.  A dialogue must be begun.  We have to work together.

Look at it this way: how great would it have been if a conservative president had ever invited a gay minister who supported marriage for everyone and civil unions to lead the prayer at one of their inaugurations?  I never felt like Bush was my president too.  I actually felt like the enemy for eight years.  It shouldn’t be that way.  If Obama can be all Jon Stewart-y about running the country, I’m for it.

Shelf Cat is Going to the Vet. In THIS.

Yeah. We’re going out in this. I swear to God, the cats time their illnesses so that as long as they have to suffer, I must too. It’s always either the weekend or a storm.

Speaking of swearing, I am officially at my 2008 Lugging Things That Are Just a Little Bit Heavier Than What I can Manage limit.  I just cannot take lugging one more heavy thing down the street and up and down five flights of stairs. If I try, my head is going to explode.  Which means today, my head explodes.

But one must attend to a possible sick cat. I don’t think it’s anything serious, but he’s had intestinal issues that don’t seem to be going away.

I want to post about Obama and Rick Warren later, if I have the energy.

Loser’s Lounge Tribute to Burt Bacharach

It’s snowing!!  Yay!!  Gotta go out and stock up!!  Because of course it’s going to be a blizzard that will never end.

Here are a couple of pictures from the Loser’s Lounge last night.  This is Wendy Ip, and back-up singer Connie Petruk.  I didn’t bring my program home so I’m afraid I can’t identify the horn player behind them.  Sorry horn player!  God I love the Loser’s Lounge.  Hey Joe — please do The Monkees one again! That is my favorite of all time one.

This is Matthew Caws of Nada Surf (and mystery horn player, Connie, and other back-up singer whose name I’m sure I’m misspelling, Katia.)

The Shar Pei Three!!

Everyone’s favorite dog trio.  But can you see how red that one guy’s eyes are, the one who is looking at the camera?  That can’t be good, right?  Poor guy. I looked it up and it seems like eye problems are common with shar peis.

Collyer Conditions in a Car

I was talking about Collyer conditions not too long ago—that’s the name the FDNY gives to apartments so filled with junk and piles of newspapers, etc., they have trouble moving around. It’s from the Collyer Brothers (you can google them for the whole sad story).  Well, I passed a car that was packed like that, except for the driver’s seat.
