I’m Not a Big Fan of Sundays

These were on a table at the Greenmarket yesterday, where I discovered macoun apples, the greatest apple in all the world!  I was buying apples, not because I even like them, but I vary what I eat to make sure I’m getting all the vitamins I need, blah, blah, blah, when Howard said to get a macoun.  I bought one.  Even the guy selling them said, “One??”

But I didn’t think I liked apples.  One was enough to say okay, I’m getting whatever apples offer, next!  On to the good fruit!  Why oh why didn’t I buy more?  It was so good it should get its own category.  When is the next Greenmarket? Monday, right?  Sigh.

So yeah, Sundays.  The most depressing day of the week.  The weekend will soon be over, and tomorrow’s Monday.  Maybe it’s a leftover back to school thing.  Tonight I’m supposed to go to a free dress rehearsal for a theatre piece being put on by the place I volunteer for, the September 11th Families’ Association and the Tribute WTC Visitor Center. I believe it’s based on what happens on the tours the Tribute Center gives of the WTC.

  1. I am an apple lover, but have not heard of this one. Try a Russet if you find it at the market – they are ugly, but firm and nutty and really wonderful. I can’t get Russets here in NC, but I will look for the Macoun.

  2. Of course I had to look for Macouns when I went shopping this afternoon, but nary a one in southern Indiana. Interesting how something I didn’t even know existed yesterday so quickly becomes a quest today.

  3. Sunday is my favorite day of the week. You can be as lazy as you want (I think it is a law :))
or do whatever you want because it is the last day before the beginning of the week. I am going to look for Macouns tomorrow – I think the local vegetable man has them from out east.

  4. Karen, you make a good point about the laziness. Sundays do have that going for them, I will concede.

And I’m so glad you’re all looking for macouns!! I had another today that I found at one of these fancy groceries and it was great.

I will also look for the russett next time.
