Bird Showdown

Karen counters with a female downy woodpecker. She is gorgeous! You guys are killing me. Since I had to move my feeder I can’t even see my pigeons anymore! Oh well. I will bird watch vicariously through you guys.

Anyhow, I got 100 on my census test!! 100!! Every question right!! Woo-hoo!! Okay, it wasn’t exactly a hard test, but it was tricky. I think it was designed to weed out the kind of people who aren’t careful and misspell names, misfile, figure out people’s year of birth incorrectly, etc.

So look out people of New York City!! Soon I may be counting you!

  1. My sister gets the credit for the pileated photo and while I have a lot of birds, I have no digital camera so I’ve got nothing more! Love the bluebird in your last photo Karen. I didn’t realize they ever went to feeders. I guess in a pinch and depending on the season if they’re hanging around a more wintery area.

  2. Woot! Great score on the test! Hope you meet a lot of fascinating people/characters when you do the census work.

Buddy might just be like a lot of cats: very picky eater.

I will soon have a hanging bird feeder in my front yard, and will be sure to get some pix to share with you. Can’t feed in the backyard due to the dogs wolfing down dropped seeds (dogs are NOT picky eaters)!

  3. Great news on the census test! Perhaps you’ll find material for a new book once you hit the streets with your census-taking hat on…surely there will be sub-text and stories around a lot of the visits you’ll be making.

  4. Lisa, if I sell this current book proposal I’m definitely going to work in the census job, if I get it!

Cara, I hope you do send pictures, I’m really enjoying everyone sharing their bird shots. Although it’s killing me that I can’t take pictures too!
