What kind of tree is this?

Thank you in advance, people who have more than passing knowledge of nature. Based on googling I think it’s a honey locust.

I've written six non-fiction books, the most recent is Damnation Island: Poor, Sick, Mad, and Criminal in 19th-Century New York.

It’s definitely a locust, but I’d have to see the bark to get to the “honey” part.

Do you have an iPhone? I downloaded an app from the Smithsonian called LeafSnap. Take a picture of a leaf and it will tell you what kind of a tree you have.

I don’t have an iphone, but there’s probably something else like it online.

Vivian, thanks. I’m going to go back and take a look at the bark. And pull a leaf for closer inspection.
