by Yesterday I posted about the show The Alienist and their references to a 19th century disorderly house called the Slide. (Disorderly house was one of many names used at the time for houses of prostitution.) The Slide catered to men attracted to men dressed as women.
The owner was put on trial in 1892 and sent to the Penitentiary on Blackwell’s Island, and I have a copy of the trial transcript. I took a screenshot of this bit, where one of the witnesses couldn’t bring himself to say the words “cock sucker” and the judge let him write them down instead. So delicate for a decidedly indelicate period of time.
