Kazuo Ishiguro

I just finished Kazuo Ishiguro’s latest novel Klara and the Sun. Loved it, haunted by it. Ishiguro is now officially my current favorite author. I’ve also read Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go.

I’m trying to decide which of his books to read next, but all his fans are incredibly divided about his remaining novels. Everyone mostly agrees that Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go are great, but his readers don’t mostly agree about the rest. I’ve gone through the reviews of his other novels and people love them, people hate them, it’s impossible to try to figure out which I might like. There’s no consensus.

Any opinions out there?

  1. Look at Bodhi, he’s so gorgeous.

If you can’t decide/don’t like other Kazuo Ishiguros, try listening to them rather than reading them. Sometimes I find that stuff I didn’t like to read, I actually DID like when I listened to it. I don’t know why. Maybe because I’m usually doing other stuff when I listen to books, so maybe I feel it was no big loss to not like it as much. Or maybe hearing it aloud changes the experience enough that you like it in a different way.

Wow, this comment doesn’t make a lot of sense. Sorry about that.

  2. Okay, I’ve read Remains of the Day and liked it very much. Never Let Me Go was good, but left me depressed. I just received Klara and the Sun; so glad you enjoyed it. I’m just finishing The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner – a little creepy but I can’t stop reading it. 🙂

  3. You’re welcome! Let me know what you think. A couple of the stories in there have such powerful imagery, those images still haunt me. I won’t tell you which ones — I’ll be spoiler-free.
