Comments are Back!! Woohoo!!

Thanks to my friends Jackie, for googling and figuring out what the problem was, and Hadley, for repairing the database tables.  Thank you Jackie and Hadley!!

Last night the moon was bigger than normal.  From NASA’s website:  “Some full Moons are genuinely larger than others and this Friday’s is a whopper. Why? The Moon’s orbit is an ellipse with one side 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other … making it 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser full Moons we’ve seen earlier in 2008.”

I have to be honest, had I not known this was happening I never would have noticed.  But when I stopped to take pictures, I loved that everyone around me knew this was going on.  A girl walking by said “the moon, right?” when I pulled out my camera, and a small group stopped to watch behind me while the most knowledgeable among them explained to the others what was happening.

I tried, unsuccessfully, to get a shot through the Ginkgo trees because the moon looked more dramatic that way and I just read this on the NASA website.  “For reasons not fully understood by astronomers or psychologists, low-hanging Moons look unnaturally large when they beam through trees, buildings and other foreground objects.”  But they said watching it when it’s low to the horizon is the most dramatic, that’s when you would get the full, larger, effect.

Update

Holy shit.  All the muggings were within blocks of where I live, and all where I walk all the time:

“All of the incidents occurred between 11:00PM and 2:45AM, and the majority of the victims were white women. Every time, the victim was approached from behind by two males, hit and then mugged. The attacks occurred on: Waverly and Bank, 11th Street and 7th Avenue, 350 West 14th Street, 30 Christopher Street, 231 West 11th Street, West 4th Street and 8th Avenue.”

I’m usually curled up watching Jon Stewart by then, at least.

“I’m going to fuck somebody up real bad.”

I’m reading on Gothamist about all these women getting mugged in my neighborhood, two within two blocks of where I live, when I hear this guy screaming on the street about how he’s going to get someone. I should wear a sign, “Struggling writer. Don’t bother.” Or, “Struggling writer. Economy not my fault. Plus, I rent.” Why is Mace illegal??

Anyway, on a different note, I finished wrapping up everything for my New York Cares kid and mailed the packages off this morning. I feel good. I found what he wanted, and I remembered to double check if batteries were included. They were not! How disappointing that would have been!

I included a thank you note to the coordinator. Doing this turned out to be a present to me as well.

This firetruck went by me the other day. Can you see how back-in-time it looks?

A Couple of Quick Videos

First up, a quick movie of walking down Bleecker Street, the last block before I hit home. That reminds me, my publisher sent me something that might help me improve the quality of my videos. I have to take a look at that. By the time I upload to YouTube the quality has really deteriorated.

Second video removed!

It looks like the people who live in the building that was Carrie’s apartment in Sex and The City are finally crying, Uncle!

For years now people have visited this spot, shooting pictures of themselves and their friends sitting on the steps. Tour buses full of people used to regularly line up to take pictures, except I believe the organizers officially took this spot off their tour.  Groups of girls continue to pay homage, but their numbers are smaller.

I’m amazed that the people living here were nice about as long as they have. I know the fans mean no harm, and I’m a huge fan of the show so I feel like they’re my people, but I can certainly understand how the people living might wish it would all just end.

Me, I’m excited to hear that there’s going to be another movie.  I did hear that, right?

I’ve had another “one of those days.”   But no one died, I have my health, and so do all my friends and family at the moment, as far as I know.  I still have all sorts of lunches and parties to look forward to.  My lunch today got rescheduled for next month, which actually worked out well since I had all sort of problems arise which I had to attend to.  Funny how that worked out.  Damnit.  I forgot to take pictures from my lunch yesterday.  It was a bunch of friends from graduate school along with the chair of the program. The ITP girls.  And we all looked so good, too.  No really.
